Meet the Coaching Team...

The coaching team consists of James and Alex heading up the programmes at all the clubs with the help of their strong coaching team. Generation Tennis also has very capable assistant coaches that help all group coaching and Easter/Summer camps run effectively and fun.

Three of the Generation Tennis assistants are on course to becoming fully qualified coaches in 2011. The Generation Tennis coaching team are working to raise the standard of tennis within the tennis clubs and their communities and also with Schools.

Head Coach/Partner - James Bone BA (Hons)


James’ passion for tennis coaching started as an assistant coach at the Avenue
Lawn Tennis Club at the age of 13. He has been coaching for 10 years now and
is DCA level 3 qualified. James has been involved in coaching programmes at
Primary and secondary schools and organising charity events. He is qualified to
teach primary and secondary school teachers to teach tennis more effectively in
their schools and is also a qualified tennis leader’s tutor. James was involved
with an event called Street Sports between 2006 and 2008, which is a community
initiative run by Havant Borough Council and coached a winning team in the
Hampshire Youth Games. James set up Generation Tennis alongside completing
his third year of studying at the University at Portsmouth.

James’ qualifications/awards:

DCA qualified,

Introduction to tutoring skills and schools Tennis Tutoring Tutor,
LTA licensed, 
Appointed person in First Aid,
Up to date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) with the LTA and Portsmouth City Council.

Head Coach/Partner - Alex Bone BA (Hons)

Alex started coaching as an assistant coach at the age of 14 and has been
coaching for 11 years now with a DCA level 3 qualification at a number of
venues in West Sussex and Hampshire. Alex has also been involved in coaching
at Primary and Secondary schools and was involved with StreetSports between
2003 and 2006. Between June 2008 and November 2009 Alex worked for a
company in London dealing with the Financial Services industry and Healthcare
Industry, whilst still coaching and maintaining his coaching Licence.    

Since 2009 Alex has been working alongside James in developing six coaching
programmes across West Sussex and Hampshire and also a number of schools.
In 2011 Alex has been running junior and adult programmes, working on school
programmes, helping club’s with club development, tutoring a Tennis Leaders
course and continually finding ways to grow Generation Tennis.    

Alex’s qualifications/awards are as follows: 
BA (Hons) Business Studies Degree,
DCA qualified,
Tennis Leader Tutor,
LTA licensed, 
Appointed person in First Aid,
Up to date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) with the LTA and Portsmouth City Council.

Coach – Steph Bone

Steph has been coaching for 6 years in many coaching venues and programmes.
Steph specialises in mini coaching and runs and assists various groups
throughout the programme. Steph will be heading up and running the Mini Red
Round Robin events. Steph now also plays a key part in the Generation Tennis
Easter and Summer camps.

Steph’s qualifications/awards are as follows: 
Level 1 Assistant Coach, 
Sport Leaders Award,
Up to date CRB with the LTA and Portsmouth City Council,
First aid trained

Coach – J.J Bone

J.J has been assisting for 5 years in many coaching venues and programmes.
J.J is now fully qualified and running his own groups that have been well
attended. He brings an abundant of enthusiasm, quality and charisma to the
tennis court. He is a strong asset to the coaching team and in 2012 he will be
coaching full time with Generation Tennis, heading up both Yonex Series 1 and 2,
the Mini Orange Round Robins, Easter and Summer camps and running regular
lessons during the week.


J.J’s qualifications/awards are as follows:
Level 2 Coach,
Level 1 Assistant Coach, 
Sport Leaders Award,
Up to date CRB with the LTA and Portsmouth City Council,
First aid trained.

Coach - Sam Hart

Sam has been assisting and volunteering for 4 years with Alex and James at
Fishbourne Tennis Club. Sam is now a level 2 qualified coach and is running his
own groups. Sam heads up the Aldingbourne pay and play sessions with great
success. Sam now also plays a key part in the Generation Tennis Easter and
Summer camps.

Sam’s qualifications/awards are as follows:
Level 2 Coach
Level 1 Assistant Coach, 
Sport Leaders Award,
Up to date CRB with the LTA,
First aid trained.

Assistant Coaches

Generation Tennis is very lucky to have such a dedicated team of coaching assistants, eager to develop their own coaching and playing abilities. Tom Foster, Seth Parson, Ben Woodruff, Riordan Hanan, Curtis Poole and Joe Course have been a great asset and are all very capable assistant coaches that help all year round in the group lessons. They are involved in making Generation Tennis’ Easter and summer tennis camps run effectively. The team bring great motivation, enthusiasm and energy to the court. They are all currently training for their next qualification.

Tennis Leaders

Generation Tennis is currently working with a new group of talented young players who are showing a passion for the game and an interest in coaching. This group of leaders are currently gaining experience by helping both James and Alex in their coaching programmes. They are an enthusiastic group of juniors who are developing quickly and are showing promising in their coaching abilities. Find out more
